Chinese, 19th century. Large blue and white porcelain covered octagonal box with lid decorated with peonies surrounding large prunus fruit finial contained within a diaper patterned border above lower portion of container decorated with birds perched on cherry blossom branches and small butterflies flying amid peonies, leaves and rocks. Bottom with two large applied rabbit head handles glazed in blue. Unmarked. Bottom with remnant of label from Jane Mardsen Antiques, Atlanta, Georgia. Approximate height 7.5", width (across handles) 12.75", diameter 12.2".
Chip to prunus finial and missing ear to one rabbit head. Tight hairline fracture at corner of lid. Random overglaze, possibly overpainting. Glaze imperfections with some discoloration.
