- Lot Description
U & C Sarreguemines (French,19th/20th century), circa 1880-1900. Large seventy-one piece majolica china set in sepia brown "Buffon" transferware pattern depicting assorted and various scenes of birds perched on flowering branches amid flowers, flying, on handing rests, eating out of bird feeders and in groups on cream colored ground, some pieces with faux bois handles. Set comprising of a large covered vegetable dish, a smaller covered vegetable dish, a serving bowl, a larger footed tazza, a smaller footed tazza, a gravy boat with integral underplate, four oblong celery dishes, an oval serving plate, a circular serving plate, a smaller circular serving plate, 10 shallow soup bowls, 26 salad plates, 18 luncheon plates, two raised serving plates, a shallow serving bowl, and a lidded sauce boat with integral circular underplate. Each marked on bottom with bird on thorned branch above "BUFFON U & C SARREGUEMINES", some with letters and impressed number marks. Serving bowl approximate height 4.25", diameter 10". Oval serving dish approximately 10.25" x 14". Circular serving dish approximate diameter 12.125". Salad plate approximate diameter 8.25". Luncheon plate approximate diameter 9".
