Johnny Friedlaender (German, 1912-1992), “Untitled (Two Fish)”, pen and ink wash on paper, signed lower right in black ballpoint pen. Abstracted figural work on paper typical of the artist's style depicting two simplified fish composed of geometric forms with striped bodies in profile with rounded eyes swimming amid a light grey wash expanse with additional speckling and jagged line work. Thumbnail sketch in pencil on verso of sketch book paper, possibly a work-up for another one of Friedlaender's works. Framed approximately 25" x 21.25". Sheet size approximately 9.5" x 8.2".
Examined out of the frame. Sheet with perforated right edge, likely torn from a sketchbook. Sheet attached to backing page at top two corners. 1 or 2 pinholes to each corner, the corners being unpainted. Allover even toning visible to verso of sheet and to recto. Light rippling to sheet from handling. No apparent losses, tears, or further holes.
