- Lot Description
John Clinton Spencer (American, 1861 - 1919) "Still Life with Oranges"-1891, oil on canvas, signed and dated lower left. Still life depicting four oranges and two boxes of dates. Framed approximately 18.5" x 25". Unframed approximately 12" x 18".
Condition
Painting has been relined. Oxidation to verso of stretcher commensurate with age. Craquelure to paint surface commensurate with age. Minor frame rubbing to each side. Pinhole puncture (front to back) at center below orange stem, the puncture not present on relining and not distracting to composition. Under black light examination, in painting to paint surface mainly as in-filling of cracks and concentrated to lower right of composition. Paint layer stable with no apparent further losses, abrasions, tears, or punctures.
