James Yarbrough (American, 20th century), "The String Quartet of Death" from the "Dance of Death" Series, mixed media on paper laid down on wood panel, signed at lower right "Yarbrough", with inventory label to verso from Mason Murer, Atlanta, GA. Figural work depicting four seated skeletons, each playing either a cello or a violin, with skeletal chandelier overhead and skull with dripping wax candle on the floor. Framed approximately 45.75" x 45.75". Unframed approximately 43.75" x 43.5". Note: The artist considers this work to be a painting. Alternate artist spellings include "Jim Yarbrough."
Overall excellent condition. Minor scattered scuffs to backing board, not distracting. Extremely minor wear to edges of paper. Under black light examination, small fluorescing dot at lower center; possibly fixative. No apparent signs of in-painting, retouching, damage or loss.
