Doccia porcelain factory (Italian, 18th century). Fine and rare hard paste porcelain plate hand painted with crimson red enamel with resting male shepherd with lamb in wooded setting with view of Italian village in background on white ground, gold lappet border surrounding tondo with three hand painted fruit swags in reserved panels on rim joined by C scroll and shell ornament in gilt, dark cobalt blue rim. Circa 1770-1780 plate moulded and gilded. Unmarked. Diameter approximately 9.6". Note: A similar 18th century porcelain plate with different hand painted scene at center by Doccia in same color palette, shape and handling is housed in the Victoria & Albert Museum in their Ceramics Study Galleries, Britain & Europe, Room 139.
Very good condition. No chips or cracks. Light surface scratches to cobalt and minor wear to gilt rim; all commensurate with age and usage.
