- Lot Description
Italian, 18th century. A carved and stained oak Baroque writing table or desk, with a planked, rectangular top over a conforming scalloped cornice, over a paneled apron inset with two short drawers, centered by a carved cabochon decorated with an eagle, the corners with scrolled acanthine patera blocks, on scrolled trestle legs carved with cherubs, on acanthine shoe feet. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 33.5", width 45.5", depth 28.825".
Condition
Wear commensurate with age and use. Expected surface wear overall, including scratching, denting, losses, and abrasions, most of which appear to be old and have darkened over time. Worming overall. Seam separation between planks to top. Some plugged repairs overall, including one to interior drawer back. Some minor losses overall. Some inherent cracking to sides. No other visible signs of damage or repair.
