Indianapolis Cabinet Company (American/Indianapolis, 1862- ), circa 1890s. A Wooton style walnut desk/cabinet office secretary surmounted with three quarter leafy carved backsplash above the case concealed by two massive hinged rounded doors; the left top of door with slot for mail or money. Interior center with an arrangement of multiple drawers and divided compartments with one secret drawer centered with a pull out/sliding writing surface; the right side interior door fitted with forty small drawers, all with painted faux leather and gilt tooled faces, the left side with glazed locking prospect door for the mail/money drop as well as numerous compartments and cubbies. The underside of one drawer with original label stamped "THE INDIANA TRUST CO/INDIANAPOLIS CABINET CO/No.75246-580-Wal" with cabinet work signature and filling signature on the label. Desk cabinet is raised on side plinths on casters. Approximate height 64", width 39.5" (closed), width 80" (open), depth 27.5". Note: The Wooton Manufacturing Company suffered a devastating fire in the early 1880s. By 1885, the company was no longer listed in the Indianapolis City Directory and some of the Wooton model cabinet office secretaries continued to be produced at the Indianapolis Cabinet Company until the end of that decade.
