An American Aesthetic Movement mixed metal water pitcher of rectangular form with chasing and repousse decoration, the whole with faux wrapped palm fronds in repousse over a chased ground with horizontal hammered pattern, the front two body planes each with an applied copper dragonfly, the whole with everted spout at top corner opposed by triangular handle with continuous decoration from body. Incised inscription to underside "George and Lucy from Clarence, Oct 16, 1879". Marked to underside "Bigelow, Kennard & Co. Boston, Sterling" over a mark within a shield and "319". Approximate height 8.75", spout to handle 7.5". Total approximate weight 26.6 troy ounces. Note: in order to preserve patina, this item has not been polished.
Interior and exterior surfaces exhibiting oxidation commensurate with age, including buildup around dragonfly forms. Surface overall with fine crispness to decoration with no apparent removals, solders, or restorations. No evidence of gilding. Top body corner to left of spout with slight depression, approximately 3mm. Side plane to left of spout exhibiting slightly impressed character, also with minor impressions to spout above slight crimping or creasing. Foot with minor scratches mainly to corners. Interior apparently untouched.
