Huit Airs Swiss high grade music box, dated 9-25-1877, with a comb cylinder that plays eight airs and has six elaborately polished and engraved chime bells with five struck by hammers in the shape of birds, the box has four concentric inlaid ruled light colored wood rectangles on the front and sides with a inlaid design on the cover containing multiple fleur-d-lis and other floral elements highlighted by dark contrasting stained wood, the face has a bannered inlay with multiple flower blooms and floral devices also with a dark stain wood highlighting the lighter wood inlay, the covers ogee, edge trim and feet are all painted black, one cylinder with original label posted under the cover with eight songs listed and label has matching number 7777 that also appears on the bottom the the box.

Operating and playing correctly at time of cataloging. The front left edge trim has buckled out and on the back right side a one inch piece of thin inlay has buckled outward, the cover has some repair on the top left corner area before the ogee and a one quarter inch of thin inlay piece has buckled outward on the same side as the cover repair, the cover has a horizontal crack which looks to be from time of construction with a thin noticeable crack appearing on the top of the cover coming in from the ogee four inches, without locking key and may have been refinished at one time.
