Hiroshi Yoshida (Japanese, 1876-1959). "Shokei Palace"- c.1937, woodblock in colors on paper, title lower left margin, pencil signature lower right margin, ink signature and seal mark lower right of matrix, printed titled and Jizuri seal left margin. Genre scene woodblock print depicting figures in traditional dress standing within a palace interior set in Japan with a tall open doorway to center background revealing landscape beyond, with indistinct graphite inscription to verso (likely later). Framed approximately 17.25" x 21.125". Sight size approximately 10.5" x 15.625".
Piece is hinged at corners to mat. Color fading to sheet overall. Deep toning to sheet. Signs of mat burn from earlier mounting in all margins, most noticeably in top, right and left margins. Waving to sheet, commensurate with moisture exposure. Creasing to margins commensurate with handling. With deep discoloration to verso. Scattered foxing, most noticeably in lower margin. Scattered scratches to frame.
