Himalyan, Early 20th century. Hand painted thangka depicting the six armed Mahakala (Protector of Dharma) with a multi-armed (likely elephant headed deity) at center flanked by stylized waves and cloud scrolls. Bottom corners with further manifestations of Mahakala in arched cartouches, upper region with four secondary female figures in various poses. Thangka within silk textile banded frame in red, orange and brown, flared top and bottom. Overall measures approximately 44" x 38". Painted scene sight size 28" x 20.125".
Some wear to the surface of the painting, losses to color and gilt throughout. Some soiling. Losses do not compromise the aesthetic of the object. Slight wear and fraying to the fabric mount. Wear is commensurate with age.
