German, circa 1880. Singing Bird automaton set in a domed wire birdcage manufactured by Karl Griesbaum. As the bird sings it swivels its head and flicks its tail, perched on stand with naturalistic leafy vines, on red velvet platform and octagonal base raised on four toupie form supports with winding key to the bottom. Height 11", width 7", depth 5.5".
Currently in working order, however, we do not guarantee it to continue working. Cage with great form. Oxidation occurring to metal, commensurate with age. Bird shows signs of wear & has missing feathers. Fading & wear to red painted interior base, however, we believe this to be intentional (made to resemble look of velvet).
