- Lot Description
Richard Bayley (English, 1683-1754; free 1706), circa 1746. A sterling silver tankard with step-domed hinged lid having an "Onslow"-scroll billet on scrolled handle with heart terminal; the body slightly tapering cylindrical form with annular banding. Handle retains monograms with touch mark "RB". Touch marks on tankard below lid for London with date code. Underside engraved "03 DWTS/27.13/1776" (later). Approximate height 7.37" (top of scroll billet), width 7" (including handle), diameter of base 5.25". Approximate weight 27.07 troy ounces.
Condition
Small creases to lid rim; likely from contact to interior mouth. A couple of dents to handle. Body with dings and dents. Foot with small dings, dents and creases. Wear is commensurate with age, usage and contact to surface.
