French, early 20th century. A fine petite ebonized wood and dore bronze jewelry box of rectangular form with cupola form roof, dore bronze turned columns at each corner, and raised on four bronze claw feet with hinged doors at front opening to reveal three drawers, the whole with fourteen inset porcelain panels finely hand painted with a Romantic figural, landscape, or courting scene. Accompanied with apparently original key. Unmarked. Overall approximate height 7.5", width 6.25", depth 5.125". Provenance: From the Estate of Mary L. Haugk, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Oxidation to metal commensurate with age. Light wear and surface scratches on ebonized wood surface commensurate with age and use--most visible on front hinged doors, corners and edges. Small scratch to porcelain medallion on left panel on front. Paneled top with repairs to metal surrounding right side porcelain medallion with enamel losses, cracks and repairs--scattered wood losses around small nailheads, loss to enamel in upper left corner (back medallion on top). Glue visible at bottom of case where meets top of foot on underside. No other signs of damage or loss.
