French, early 20th century. A five piece vanity set or dresser set comprising of dresser clock, looking glass or hand mirror, garment brush, hair brush, and comb, each piece with finely hand painted romantic or courting scene set in a landscape and further decorated with floral garlands and bows. All pieces but comb signed "Lucie L.", clock marked on back "E. Marquis Made in France, 1 One Adj., 10 Ten Jewels, Metal Dore". Clock approximately 3.625" tall, 7" wide. Mirror approximately 11" tall. Garment brush approximately 7.5" tall. Hair brush approximately 8.5" tall. Comb approximately 8" tall. Provenance: From the Estate of Mary L. Haugk, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Clock winds and appears to be in working condition, but lacks original key. Set overall in good condition. Minor losses to paint especially at corners and on handles, most notably to bottom of hair brush handle and handle of mirror. Figural scenes all intact and fully readable. Some tines of comb bent, but all present. Brush hairs appear original. Mirror with scratches to looking glass commensurate with use.
