French, Early 19th century. Grain painted repousse morbier or comtoise clock the hood with stepped cornice and glazed door opening to reveal the circular painted metal dial inscribed Pierre Riallard a Abbaretz within a gilt repousse and floral painted frame incorporating sheafs of wheat and grapes, the bombe form trunk painted with red flowerheads with glazed door revealing the pressed and painted metal shaped pendulum, on a plinth base centering a polychrome still-life. Height 85.25", width 19.5", depth 10.25".
No key present, therefore, we are unable to assess working condition of mechanisms & movement. Several chips & areas of crazing to dial. Slight rubbing to corners of clock. Scattered scratches & dings, commensurate with age & usage. Grain painting helps to conceal most scratches. Glazed & hand painted trunk with crack (see image 3). Areas of shrinkage to the wood, commensurate with age. Uneven shrinkage to base. Would recommend servicing.
