French, 18th century. A carved, polychrome, and giltwood wall bracket with five sided platform at top surmounting two elderly men as angels flanking a heralding shield form with three fleur-de-lis, the French royal coat of arms, the figural scene surrounded by undulating ribbons and a floriform decoration at center bottom. Approximate height 7.25", width 18.375", depth 5.125".Provenance: From the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia.
Bracket with separation to wood above figures below the platform edge, and splitting of wood chiefly to the lower edge of figural composition - bracket is structurally stable. Overall with loss of gilt and polychrome, remnants throughout. Heraldic shield with one missing fleur de lis, the two remaining forms with losses. Front and back with evidence of worming, back also with several small holes from previous mounting. Top of bracket with wax remnants.
