- Lot Description
Henry Marc,(Paris, France, likely late 19th century). A gilt bronze and patinated mantel clock comprising a gilt equestrienne figure dressed in riding garb fashionable in the 1860s with plumed hat and riding crop leaning against a patinated silver leaf horse with gilt metal reins within a landscape with tree trunk and cascading acorn branches, surmounting the clock frieze comprising a molded cornice with high relief floral decoration flanking central carved anthemion surmounting the white enamel clock face framed by a beaded molding with black Roman numerals and patinated metal dial, signed "1/Henri Marc/A Paris", the clock flanked by inset alabaster framed by beaded gilt bronze trim centered by high relief gilt bronze paterae, the sides decorated with patera motifs under gadrooned astragal form cornices with cascading acorn leaves and hunting horn all over a curved stepped base decorated with patinated silver leaf dogs flanking a central cushion upon which high relief roses rest, surmounting acorn tree branch base flanking central shield form with patinated quiver and arrows. Approximate height 16.5", width 17.5", depth 6".
Condition
Time and strike movement is in working condition however very dirty and would benefit from cleaning and servicing. There is oxidation and corrosion to silver and gilt finish on the horse, dogs and equestrienne figure. The dial has minor scratches. The door to the movement on back is missing.
