French, 19th century. Comtoise / Morbier / Morez tall clock case (missing timepiece) of pregnant or potbellied form with dramatic curvature at waist, which is typical of the region, case with grain painting throughout accented with florals and leaves, upper section of case (which would have contained mechanism) with flat cornice molding at top, with separate (formerly hinged) glazed door decorated with incised scrolled foliates, with side panels removed, waist with hinged and glazed access door (to where pendulum would have been housed) with painted floral, s scroll decoration, and incised foliate scrolls, base with shield form vignette depicting bunch of flowers including tulips, daisies and roses, case supported on bracket feet. Approximate height 94.4", width 21.75", depth 8".
Note: Morbier timepieces originate in the Comte’ Region of France. Additionally, tall cases are go by several names, including: grandfather clock, long case clock, floor clock.
