French, circa 1890. French Empire or Neoclassical style ebonized wood and ormolu mounted portico mantel clock having a rectangular frieze mounted with draping floral swags over four tapering cylindrical columns centered with the bronze engine turned dial with black Roman numerals and moon hands, the bezel cast with scrolling foliage over a pendulum headed with opposing swans and circular fancy leaf decorated bob, the base decorated with ormolu appliques of a winged cherub or putti flanking acanthus, laurel and roses with a perched phoenix to each end raised on a rectangular plinth terminating on four disc shaped feet. The exposed brass movement with an half hour count wheel strike mechanism on bell, stamped "8 FC 1" and stamped twice in fancy script "A.L & P" and numbered "1737". Clock is accompanied by custom rosewood veneered base and glass dome. Approximate height without base or dome 19.62", width 10.25", depth 5.62". Approximate height on base 28.25", width 13", depth 8".
Clock is in working condition. Minor rubs to finish on left front column. Minor chips to finish with some scattered scuffs. The base with cracks above the ormolu appliques and to the right and left side. One foot likely replacement. Custom stand with scuffs. Wear is commensurate with age and usage.
