French Empire or Directoire period (circa 1800-1815). A mahogany secretaire a abbatant with ormolu mounts, upper case comprising a molded top over a fall-front lid decorated with central acanthus scrolls terminating in in large flowers, each corner decorated with a patera with trailing lotus motifs and central star motif at bottom rail, flanked by caryatid pilasters, the fall-front lid with key opening to a black leather writing surface with embossed Greek key boder and storage space comprising two rows of shelf space over a central prospect drawer flanked by two rows of rectangular drawers, all with round gilt brass pulls, the lower case comprising three long drawers each with classical swan motif keyhole escutcheons and high relief ormolu swan pulls, flanked by Egyptian pharaoh caryatid pilasters, case sides decorated with classical foliate motif mounts, overall raised on gold leaf painted lion's paw front feet and squared back feet. Approximate height 49.5", width 33", depth 18".
