French, late 19th/ early 20th century. Napoleon III style burled walnut, brass, and mother of pearl inlaid Cave a Liqueur or tantalus decanter stand & box, the rectangular case with serpentine front and raised on four feet, the case front and top decorated with floral medallions to center inlaid with mother of pearl flowers on brass vines within an ebonized wood cartouche set within a burled panel overall bordered by complimentary inlaid bands and floral cartouches, the case's hinged lid opening to reveal a gilt brass decanter set with four bottle form decanters and sixteen stemmed cordials set in tiered stand with reeded squared handle at center, the glass decorated wtih gilt foliated and key patterns. Apparently unmarked. Case approximate height 11.5", width 13.75", depth 11".
Box case structurally sound with all mother of pearl and inlay fully intact. Wood on case shows slight lifting to veneer and losses commensurate with age and light use. Scattered evidence of worming, however, inactive. Front panel with some scattered retouching (visible under black light) and later clear coat finish, likely to mask earlier worming, however, not particularly distracting. Glass elements with little wear to gilt elements and minor wear to bottom due to light use. Some stoppers with minor losses, however, are not sharp and are sanded down. No signs of cracks, hairlines or severe losses.
