French, 19th century. Louis XV/Louis XVI transitional pine wood three drawer chest or commode with rectangular top above three pull out drawers with brass bale handles flanked by Neoclassical fluted stiles, shaped apron with S scroll motif, overall raised on squat cabriole legs with scrolled feet. Approximate height 36.5", width 34.5", depth 21".
Structurally sound. Large horizontal seam on top where boards join (see image 5). Scattered surface scratches, commensurate with age & usage. Gapping due to shrinkage occurring on sides, also commensurate with age. Separation occurring in drawers. Scratch to bottom drawer. Evidence of repair patches (possibly wood putty) to two bottom drawers near pulls. Hardware has been replaced. Scattered chips to scalloped apron, however, not distracting.
