- Lot Description
Frederick Stuart Church (American, 1842-1924), "Hollyhocks"-1912, oil on canvas with artist's frame, signed to lower right "F.S. Church COPYRIGHT 1912", with artist's label to verso. Impressionistically rendered portrait painting depicting an auburn haired girl with bonnet and rosy cheeks to center, surrounded by artist's frame crested by cascading ribbon bow, flanked on either side by flora and fauna including blue birds and hollyhocks. Framed approximately 22.75" x 41.5". Unframed approximately 19" x 38".
Condition
Overall very good condition. Painting is not relined. Canvas is loose to right quadrants. Even toning throughout. Paint surface stable. Losses to margins, commensurate with frame contact; most predominant to lower left corner.
