- Lot Description
Frederick Landseer Maur Griggs (English, 1876-1938), "The Quay", circa 1916, etching, third state (of three states total), from a limited edition run of 40 impressions (within this state), monogramed and dated within plate lower left "F.L.G. 1915-1916". Finely rendered architectural etching depicting Medieval scene with tightly clustered stone buildings rising on a hill, stone walkway by river at foreground, figures throughout. Framed approximately 11.8" x 13.3". Sight size approximately 6.4" x 7.9". Reference: Comstock, 915iii. Note: This work is included in "A Gothic Vision: F.L. Griggs and His Work" by Francis Adams Comstock, published by the Boston Public Library in 1978 (second printing) on pages 82-85. The author notes that other third state impressions of this work are located in collections at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, England; the Boston Public Library; the British Museum in London; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, England.

Examined out of frame. Glued down - unable to remove mat to measure margins,. Minor foxing to upper left corner. No other visible signs of damage or repair.
