After Johann Heinrich Dannecker (German, 1758-1841), "Ariadne and the Panther"-1814, bisque plaque, unsigned. Figural mythological sculptural bisque plaque of circular form depicting in deep relief Ariadne and the Panther with nude woman with grape leaf garland in upswept hair holding a draped cloth resting on the back of a muscular panther within a border of grape leaves, vines and grape clusters. Classical subject portraying Ariadne who was comforted by Bacchus on the island of Naxos after abandonment by Theseus. On her way to Bacchus, she was adorned with grape leaves and brought on the back of a panther. Framed approximate diameter 14.25". Provenance: From the Estate of Mary L. Haugk, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Overall very good condition. Interior gilt painted border has a couple fine hairline cracks. There are a couple of minor losses to the grape leaves. One apparent repair to a grape leaf. Possible repair to figure on the left shoulder and right hand. Not examined out of frame due to concern of compromising the sculpture and back of the plaque.
