American, probably New York or Boston, circa 1800. A fine Federal giltwood and eglomise tabernacle pier mirror having a molded cornice of fifteen spherules over a carved florette and lattice panel over the beaded rectangular eglomise panel depicting two hunters with dogs on a rocky and tree lined shore with masted sailing vessel in the background against blue skies above the rectangular mirror plate and flanked to each side by three lobed pilaster headed with an eight petal rosette carved block. Approximate height 43.25", width 25.5", depth 4.5".Provenance: From the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia.
Scattered areas of wear and chips with loss of gilding. One missing spherule. Old staples at the top of mirror present probably used for stability. Shrinkage at corners with some gapping. Loss of acanthus leaf to each pilaster at the top center. Decorative molding is missing from upper left patera block and traces of prior glue residue. There is loss of silvering. Missing molding between bottom pilasters. Wear is commensurate with age.
