Chinese, 19th century. A Chinese export porcelain famille rose lidded teapot of drum form, lid with cobalt and gilt scroll border, with hand painted enamel floral decoration, with gilt berry form finial, body with double-face patterning, with hand painted enamel floral decoration, with cobalt and gilt scroll borders, with central floral medallion with large pink rose, medallion encircled by radial gilt sun-ray decoration and additional round cobalt and gilt scroll border, with applied reeded and braided handle, with undecorated tapered spout. Approximate height 4.5", diameter 4.8".
Dirt and grime to surface; may benefit from light professional cleaning. Lid with scattered paint and gilt loss; most noticeably to outermost cobalt border. Lid finial with puncture, likely original to piece, not distracting. Underside of lid with wear to surface commensurate with contact with teapot. Exterior of drum form with scattered paint and enamel loss (commensurate with age), not overwhelmingly distracting. Scattered glazing imperfections to handle and drum form. Interior strainer element with some structural loss (commensurate with age and use). Underside with wear and fleabites (commensurate with surface contact).
