Frederick James Boston (American (New York/ Connecticut), 1855- 1932). "Sisters", oil on wood panel, signed lower left. Finely painted genre scene depicting two fair haired sisters with blue eyes leaning out of a house window and smiling, the window with white frame and flanked by blue shutters with pink roses climbing up the edges of the composition, both girls with soft hair pulled back from their porcelain faces. Framed approximately 35.5" x 31.625", unframed approximately 26" x 22". Provenance: Acquired at James D. Julia, Spectacular Maine Summer Auction, August 25, 2009 from a private collection in southern Maine.
Frame has been refinished and exhibits multiple repairs, losses to finish, gesso and wood. Under black light examination of painting, little to no signs of in-painting. Two small areas with paint loss--small chip near right edge of board where meets frame and lower center where meets frame. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
