- Lot Description
Ethel Wallace (American, 1885 -1968), "Untitled (New Hope frmo the Creek)", oil on canvas, signed to lower left "Ethel Wallace". Impressionistically rendered landscape painting depicting a quaint creek-side village, likely the artist's home town of New Hope, Pennsylvania. With inscription to frame verso "Ransom Rambo Studio". Framed approximately 47" x 37.5". Unframed approximately 39.5" x 29.75". Note: Ethel Wallace's work has been exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Society of Independent Artists, the National Academy of Design, the Phillips Mill Art Association, and Grand Central Galleries.
Condition
Painting is unlined, but has reinforcing canvas to stretcher (visible from verso). Six patches to verso with corresponding in-painting to recto; most noticeably spanning lower margin and at upper left corner. Dirt and grime throughout.
