English, 19th century. English Victorian copper and gilt metal tankard or stein, the lid surmounted with artichoke finial and winged griffin/gryphon (the griffin's mouth no longer connected to the handle) the leafy molded rim mounted with cherubic masks over a copper and gilt mounted body decorated continuously with cartouche and winged herms on a circular molded base. Apparently unmarked. Height 9.75", base diameter 6.5".
Lid not connected to lower section of vessel, missing hinge connection. Oxidation throughout, visible evidence of light rusting near bottom above gadrooned border. Underside of tankard with slightly bent interior ring—not particularly noticeable.
