English, 19th century. Vertically-aligned hand embroidered silk textile panel with figural scene depicting a young woman with curled hair, sitting underneath a green tree, wearing a pink and gold dress, resting head on arm, opposite hand holding a leash of a brown spotted dog. Framed approximately 11.125" x 8.75". Provenance: From the Estate of Dr. Woody and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia.
Examined out of the frame. Silk textile secured to a period wood board. Some losses to silk outside threaded border of picture plane composition. Minor linear perforations to silk to upper right of figure in sky region - likely just deterioration of fabric. No apparent losses to threading. In period frame, with vertical crack to lower edge of molding.
