English, 19th century. Regency flame tortoiseshell veneered tea caddy of standard form with hinged shaped lid with applied silvered shaped plaque on top of hinged lid that opens to reveal two tortoiseshell veneered lids with rounded glass knob pulls, incurvate silvered key escutcheon on body supported on four wooden bun feet. Unmarked. Approximate height 4.9", width 7.9", depth 4.8".
Professionally repaired horizontal split to veneer on back of caddy running approximately 2.5".Wood and veneer losses to corners and edges of box and lids. Oval shaped repair on front of caddy--not particularly noticeable. Some scattered splitting to bone lined borders on interior. Some swelling to veneered panels. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
