English, second half of 18th century. A mahogany chest on chest lined in oak, the molded cornice decorated with pierced dental molding over the frieze with carved fretwork, the upper case comprising four long drawers with brass keyhole escutcheons and swan neck pulls, flanked by fluted chamfered columns, over a cavetto molding surmounting the lower case comprising a top pull-out writing surface with round brass pulls three long drawers with conforming escutcheons and pulls, all raised on bracket front feet with cyma curved sides. Approximate height 73", width 41.25", depth 20.5".
Chest on chest is in overall good condition. Piece has been refinished and polished. There are slight indentations to cornice, not particularly distracting. Sides of cornice with slight abrasions and wood loss. Upper case right side exhibits two long splits and three short splits. Lower case has two long splits and one short split. Cornice at very back exhibits an old repair. Left side of case has two long splits at upper case and two long splits at lower case. There are slight scattered indentations at waist molding. Pull out writing surface in good condition. Drawers have scattered slight surface abrasions that are not distracting. Base molding has slight abrasions directly beneath lowest drawer. Top left drawer with old repair.
