- Lot Description
English, late 18th century with 20th century modifications. A two-part chinoiserie corner cabinet or cupboard, the upper portion originally a hanging corner cupboard(18th century), japanned in a figural chinoiserie motif, opening to reveal interior shelving, the upper shelf notched for spoon storage, the lower portion polychromed with a chinoiserie garden scene. Later electrified with a strand of lights. Approximate height 68.5", width 26", depth 16".
Condition
Wear commensurate with age and use. Top portion is old, bottom portion is newer. Losses to gesso decoration and finish, with some losses to paint. All over craquelure and wear/bubbling to surface. Some losses to polychrome. Interior has been fitted with a vintage light strand - old and in need of removal or replacement. Filled shrinkage cracks to base. Modifications to original form. No other visible signs of damage or repair.
