English, 19th century. Chinese Chippendale style mahogany chest on chest, likely a marriage, in two pieces, the upper case having a a dentil molded cornice over a blind fretwork frieze and two short over three graduated drawers, flanked by chamfered corners with blind fretwork panels, the case having a bachelor's slide three graduated drawers raised on a molded base with shaped bracket feet. All drawers beaded with individual locking mechanisms. Approximate height 71", width above bracket feet 31.5", width at top cornice 31.75", width at mid-section 30", depth 19.25".
Structurally sound. There is cracking with some loss to fretwork particularly at the frieze. Loss of dentil molding at corner right. Scattered chips to edges and beading. Prior worm wood damage. Scattered cracks to veneered drawer faces and the sides of case some with old glue residue and stain. Hardware has been replaced. Interior of drawers show separation, some taped. Interior sides of drawers show old glue repairs. Replaced runners/blocks. Bottom drawer missing runners/blocks.
