English, first quarter 17th century. Baroque Period stained and painted glass armorial panel dated 1621 displaying the coat of arms of the Cornish Family of Sharnebrook, Berkshire, the glass of oval form centralized by a black shield form with yellow chevron embattled between three white rose blossoms, the shield surrounded by an elaborate composition of four winged putti amid fruiting vines and scrolling architecture with a cartouche to center below shield inscribed "1621", the glass to a rectangular wooden frame. Overall approximately 26.875" x 21". Glass approximately 24.25" x 17.375". Provenance: acquired by the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia from The Monastery Stained Glass, Northamptonshire, England in a private sale on September 13, 2006. Further paperwork from the estate states that the panel was purchased at Sotheby's, London, on 7/24/1970 as part of lot 59.
