Edouard Cortes (French, 1882-1969), "Parisian Street Scene in Winter (Paris en Hiver)", oil on canvas, signed lower right. Painting depicting a Paris street scene in winter season in the evening with numerous figures walking the snowy streets, warm glow of light from street lanterns and shop windows, horse drawn carriages at left, view of Arc de Triomphe at back left. Framed approximately 24.25" x 29.25". Unframed approximately 13.125" x 18.125".
Canvas not relined. Under blacklight examination, in painting evident namely to lower left corner, on horses' faces at center left, lower right beneath figures, and scattered throughout. Pin hole at center commensurate with perspective technique commonly practiced by the artist, with minor paint loss to lower edge of puncture - not distracting. Further small paint losses along lower portion of matrix, six in total, the largest measuring approximately 0.4". A slightly arching linear abrasion, approximately 2", at upper right on buildings. Repaired linear abrasion to right of central street light. Three further repaired abrasions or scratches to right on buildings, each with in painting. Overall with very minor craquelure to paint surface.
