John Van Koert (Canadian/American, 1912-1998) for Drexel Furniture Company (American, North Carolina). Drexel Profile walnut extension dining table, circa 1950s, with rectangular top and rounded edges raised on angled square tapered legs. Table comes with 3 additional leaves. Underside of table is marked. Approximate height 29.5", width 54", depth 36". Each leaf adds on an additional 12" in width. Note: This piece is documented in the 1960 catalog "Profile by Drexel" on page 12 (K44-4) . The Drexel Profile furniture collection was designed by John Van Koert, and it was in production from 1955 to 1961. Van Koert started out as a jewelry designer for Harry Winston after WWII and later branched into industrial design. He also is well known for designing silver for Towle, particularly the Contour design; his particular attention to the drawer pulls and other hardware on Profile pieces is noted in the catalog.
Minor surface scratches & moisture damage. Minor wear to edges. Slight discoloration to edges--would benefit from cleaning. Legs with knicks & scuffs. All three leaves with similar wear. All wear commensurate with age & usage.
