Dean Chapman (American, (Georgia) 1937-2001), "The Charge", oil on canvas, signed lower right. Large figural painting depicting three Native American or Indian tribesmen hunting on horseback adorned with weapons, and beaded tribal accessories, main male figure wearing loincloth with exposed chest on a white muscular horse, left arm raised holding whip and right arm holding rifle and shield, two other Native American warriors in distance raising their weapons into air, longhorn skull at right foreground in vast grassland and mountains in distance. Framed approximately 42" x 51.25". Unframed approximately 36" x 42.25".
Painting in excellent condition. Work on original canvas and has not been relined. Under black light examination, no signs of retouches or in-painting. No signs of rips, tears or holes. Paint layer stable with no signs of lifting. No other visible damage, loss or repair.
