Dario de Regoyos y Valdes (Spain, 1857-1923). "Paisaje Con Casa (Landscape with House)", oil on artist's board, signed lower right "D. de Regoyos". Likely painted en plein air during the latter part of the artist's life, this painting depicts an adobe or stucco structure at center with yellow walls and forward slanting red clay roof with wooden pole supports leading from side walls, the front portion of structure having two doorways on front with one horizontal window to right and the left wall of structure having one square window, and the back portion of the building having one visible vertically aligned window. The dwelling is set within a colorful landscape with a stream culminating just before the door flanked by grassy banks in several tones of green with red flowers on either bank. The house is surrounded by a swath of light pink, possibly a field of wild flowers or clay, with two tall tree groupings behind the roof in green, pink, and yellow. A cloudy sky emerges to right of structure above a path that leads into the distance, the clouds being a light yellow tone set within a blue sky transitioning to purple at horizon line along a grouping of trees in the distance. Inscribed to verso of frame structure "Obra Original de Dario de Regoyos (Ribadesella 1857-1913), Certificado por Dr. Carlos Coll 18/03/2014" above "No 01947 CR" and a signature, the latter two items within a rectangular stamped cartouche. Framed approximately 11" x 12", unframed 4.25" x 5.25". Note: Born in Ribadesella, Spain, Regoyos studied at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando beginning in 1878 under Belgian Carlos de Haes. The artist travelled to Brussels in 1879 where he lived for ten years and studied at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts, Brussels also being where he became a member of L'Essor and a founding member of Les XX with the Belgian avant-garde scene, which included such painters as Rysselberghe, Charlet, Pissarro, Seurat, and Signac. Regoyos is most noted for his contributions to the renewal of modern Spanish painting with his introduction of Impressionism techniques, this influence gained during several trips to Paris in the 1880s. Works by Regoyos are in the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in Barcelona, Abelló Museum in Vallès Oriental, and the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Málaga.
