- Lot Description
Continental School, 20th century. "Sheep at Twilight", oil on canvas, unsigned. Pastoral painting depicting a charming herd of wooly sheep (mostly white with a few black sheep) in a grassy pasture with scattered trees looking at black crow birds resting on a rock, others flying off in the distance, scarecrow in background on hillside, sun setting in distance under pink, purple and orange clouds. Framed approximately 31.25" x 43.4". Unframed approximately 24" x 36".
Condition
Overall in very good condition. Oxidation to verso of canvas and stretcher commensurate with age. Craquelure to paint surface commensurate with age. Frame rubbing along edges along with scattered and minor in painting - not readily apparent or distracting. Painting not relined. Paint layer stable. No apparent tears, rips, abrasions, or losses.
