Continental School, late 19th or early 20th century. "The Happy Death of Saint Joseph", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned, with inscribed numeral to verso "131". Figural ecclesiastic or religious painting depicting Christ and the Virgin Mary (Madonna, the Virgin Mother) kneeling at the bedside of an ailing Saint Joseph, with angels playing with relics of carpentry including hammer and chisel in the foreground, with archangel holding white lily stems ushering in the bright light of the Holy Ghost in the background, with three angels looking on the scene from clouds above. Framed approximately 53.75" x 39.25". Unframed approximately 45.5" x 31.25".
