American, mid 20th century. Complete collections of both the Booker T. Washington and George Washington U.S. Commemorative Silver Half Dollars, 28 coins total, comprising of a Booker T. Washington coin from the mints in San Francisco, Denver, and Philadelphia each year from 1946-1951 (16 coins in total), and a George Washington Carver coin from the mints in San Francisco, Denver, and Philadelphia each year from 1951-1954 (12 coins in total). Coins are presented in a black plexiglas molded plaque with front and back faces of clear plexiglas, with Booker T. Washington coins at top headed by the coin name and dates of production with date and mint indicated below each coin, and George Washington Carver coins at bottom headed by the coin name with date and mint indicated below each coin, all text being in silver gilt. A page cutting on verso of structure titled "Booker T. Washington Memorial" with text below giving a short biography of the icon and a listing of coin values circa 1980's. Provenance: From the Estate of Booker T. Washington. Note on provenance: Copy of letter from Booker T. Washington's granddaughter, Robin Washington Banks, confirming provenance is available upon request. Letter states her inheritance of the estate and its ultimate sale to the consignor of this lot.
