A Colt Model 1851 Navy cap and ball percussion 6 shot .36 caliber single-action revolver manufactured circa 1852 (serial #13106) carried in the American Civil War by Union infantryman H. R. Hodgman of Princeton, Illinois, then owned and carried by Aaron Pierce Chapman to Leadville, Colorado during the Silver Rush where he was killed on October 11, 1879. Gun with a 7.5" barrel inscribed to top "Address SamL Colt New York City", the revolving chamber with etched naval battle scene on tondo, and with five visible and matching serial numbers. Gun accompanied with period fitted box, likely original, civil war era powder horn, many steel balls, and several containers of percussion caps. Gun barrel length 7.5", entire length 13.25". Case approximate length 15", width 7". Provenance: By descent from Aaron Pierce Chapman to historian Arthur E. Chapman, Woodstock, Georgia.
