- Lot Description
David Law (English, 1831-1901) after Sir Oswald Walter Brierly (British, 1817-1894). "The Decisive Action with the Armada off Grandines, 30th July 1588", hand colored etching originally published by H. Graves, London in 1882, inscribed lower left below image "Painted by Oswald W. Brierly R.W.S." and lower right below image "etched by David Law". Finely colored etching depicting Captain Drake in the ship Revenge attacking the Duke of Medina-Sedonia, Commander-in-Chief of the Spanish Armada, in the ship San Martin, with smoke throughout above the darks seas, sunk ships to foreground, and many ships having tattered sails. Framed approximately 32" x 41", sight size approximately 19.75" x 29.75".Prior to bidding, please consult the additional photos provided and ask all pertinent questions (i.e. condition, size, etc.).
