Asian, Late 19th/Early 20th century, possibly earlier. Group of two hand carved and polychome ivory sculptural figures comprising of a man standing and pedaling a water wheel or water turbine of a mill supporting himself on two wooden shafts above rock with flowing water at center below primitive machine. Male figure barefoot and wearing short paints with fur vest, marked on bottom, approximate height 9.25", width 2.6", depth 3"; and a man hauling a load of wood on back holding a walking stick in hand as he steps forward on a naturalistic base wearing sandals, marked on bottom, approximate height 6.5", width (across wood bundle) 3", depth 3".
