Circle of John Frederick Kensett (American (New York/ Connecticut), 1816-1872). "A Scene From Nature" - 1844, oil on canvas, apparently unsigned, inscribed to verso of canvas with title above "John F. Kensett New York 1844". Luminist landscape painting depicting a single figure in red standing in a shadowy wooded scene within a small pool of light cast on the forest floor, the immense and feathery trees skillfully painted in many tones of green and forming a tall canopy over the figure, the gray sky above mottled with white clouds. Painting typical of Kensett's early Hudson River School works displaying strikingly clear light, restrained tones of gray and greens, and a bird's eye view on a sublime and calm scene in nature. Framed approximately 20.5" x 18.25". Unframed approximately 12.125" x 10.125". Provenance: Acquired by a private collection in Atlanta, Georgia through Spanierman Gallery, New York, whereby sold through King Art, LLC, Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2011 and acquired by private collection in Decatur, Georgia.
