Figural painting depicting a beautiful young woman in near profile wearing ornate gold and jewelry and orange and red flowing gown holding a fiery oil lamp in both hands as she watches moths by the flame. Framed approximately 28.75" x 33.75". Unframed approximately 21.75" x 26.5". Provenance: Sold by Arif Rahman Chughtai (the artist's son and director of Chughtai Museum in Lehore, Pakistan to the Former United States Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Benjamin Oehlert, Atlanta, Georgia thence by descent to his family. Minor indentation ding to paper lower left under signature. Light wear to corners and edges from light handling and rubbing on frame. Verso of sheet with paint and older hinging tape. Colors rich without signs of fading. Work is not laid down. No other signs of damage, loss, or repair.
